Mereka didatangkan dari Afrika negara yang dijajah Belanda pada tahun 1900 sebagai pekerja kontrak dan ternyata setelah kontraknya habis mereka tidak dipulangkan ke negaranya, dan menjadi penduduk Suriname hingga beranak cucu hingga sekarang. Foto koleksi Tropen Museum Belanda.
